ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!

After an appointment in Columbia, I offered my husband his choice of restaurants for lunch.  We discussed a couple places and when Cracker Barrel was mentioned the decision was made.  So we were off to Cracker Barrel at Sandhills in Northeast Columbia.  (Sandhills is a nice shopping area to visit.)
As always good meal and great service.  My compliments to the manager also.  The manager stood in the kitchen door and told the servers and the kitchen staff they had done a great job with lunch service.  Hooray for him!!!!  If more managers were like that there would be a lot happier employees in this world!
Back to the subject though....
Cracker Barrel was a treat for my sister and I as kids.  Back then (no not the dark ages), you had to be at least to Kentucky before you found a Cracker Barrel along I-75.  So when my family took a road trip from Michigan to Dalton, Georgia for the carpet business, we were always looking forward to a stop at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant and Old Country Store.  Some trips we stopped on the way there and the way home!!!!

It seemed like we always spent as much time in the store as we did eating our meal.  I remember treasured trinkets that my sister and I found in the store.  Items that might not have meant that much to someone else, but things we kept for years and years.  Memories came back as I stood in front of the stick candy jars today.  Memories of my sister and I going through all the stick candies and picking out 10 dad would like.  We always picked out 10 because they were 10 for $1.00.  Memories of picking out candy to take home to our Grandparents.  Grandpa always would eat chocolate covered cherries and share with us.  Memories and emotions of the good times we had on those trips.

Then the overwhelming feeling of wanting to yell out "Road Trip" in the middle of the store and run for the door hit me like a ton of bricks!  I had to laugh at myself and how after all these years (no, I'm not telling!) these memories came back and the sudden urge to go hop in the car and hit the road were pulling at me.  I sighed though and reminded myself, we will be one a road trip soon enough with a 2 1/2 year old in the back seat.  Patience.  There is a lot of work to do between now and then.

So until then, I bought at box of Goo Goo clusters for my husband and a couple of clearance item clothes for my daughter.  There is preparation to be done.  It isn't as easy as packing a suitcase and heading out the door when your parents said it was time to go.  Sigh.  Being a kid really wasn't so bad!!!

Enjoy the rest of your summer and have a great road trip if you are heading on one!  Make some great memories no matter who is with you!
