May 2014 in Sumter, SC Real Estate showed a slight increase in the number of home sold.  April had 87 homes sold in Sumter county and 88 homes closed in May.  May 2014 units sold was slightly higher than May 2014 helping to close the gap of year to date closings between 2013 and 2014.  May 2013 ended the month with 190 units pending and May 2014 had 216 pending which is a good indicator that June 2014 will have an increase in the number of units sold.


The median home price in Sumter, SC increased slightly in May 2014 to $137,500 as did the average sale price at $139,994.  The price per square foot increased in Sumter, SC real estate from $64.50 in April 2014 to $69.35 in May 2014.  The price per square foot is great news as this average is higher than any monthly price per square foot since August 2013!  May and April 2014 both had 1319 active listings.  May 2014 showed a slight decrease in the number of new listings which is good to a market that has so much inventory vs the sales. 


The charts for Sumter SC Real Estate in May 2014 are below.  It remains a great time to purchase a home in Sumter, there is a very high inventory and the interest rates are still relatively low.  There is a substantial cost savings in purchasing a home versus renting the same home.  These savings are only increased when tax benefits of owning are home are calculated into the equation.
