January 2014 in Sumter, SC was a slower month for real estate sales. This is very typical of January coming off the holidays and the weather not being the greatest for home shopping. In January 2014 there were 53 homes sold in Sumter, SC. This is the decrease of 13 properties from 2013, but January 2014 is still better than the years 2009 through 2012. While the number of homes sold in January 2014 in Sumter, SC the pendings increased and this is a good sign of more sales to come in the following months.
The median home price in Sumter, SC decreased slightly in January 2014 to $130,000 as did the average sale price at $133,459. The price per square foot increased in Sumter, SC real estate from $62.44 in December 2013 to $64.91 in January 2014. While Sumter, SC is off to a slower start than 2013, I expect to see the sales in the Sumter market increase and remain at 2013 levels. The weather may have played a part in slowing some sales, but we are quickly rebounding in temperatures and I think home sales in Sumter, SC will also increase as the temperatures increase.
